


Due to popular demand, the Legacy crew gathered again in January for their second bowling extravaganza.
MINNEAPOLIS, January 22, 2010—The University of Minnesota exceeded its own goals to employ significant numbers of women- and minority-owned businesses in the renovation of the former Northside supermarket that now houses the University’s Urban Research and Outreach/Engagement Center (UROC). The building opened in late September.
The Yorktown Continental Apartments Resident Association Annual Bazaar will take place on Sat., Oct. 16th from 9:00AM to 3:00PM. Homemade baked goods, used furniture, household items, jewelry, books, puzzles, etc. will be for sale.Donuts and coffee for breakfast: chili, sandwiches and pie for lunch. Raffle tickets for sale at 3 for $1.00 or .50 each—last year we had 40 items on the raffle. All proceeds pay for buses for outside activities for the seniors, entertainment brought into the building, holiday dinners, etc. COME JOIN THE FUN!

Finance and Commerce Top Projects is celebrating its second year as an honoring program for the projects and developments covered by their editorial staff throughout the year. Twenty-five projects completed in 2008 were selected from an outstanding number of nominations sent in by people in the commercial building industry. Finance and Commerce editorial staff reviewed all of the entries and made the final selections. The Winnipeg Apartments will be showcased in the Top Projects magazine published June 25th in Finance and Commerce. The awards presentation will follow on July 16.
Archie Givens has been elected national volunteer president of the 60,000-member University of Minnesota Alumni Association for 2009-10. As president, Givens will help lead the association in its mission to serve alumni and advocate for the university. He has been an officer of the board of directors since 2002 and has given outstanding volunteer leadership to outreach and marketing initiatives. Givens received his undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota’s College of Liberal Arts and his master’s degree from the School of Public Health in hospital and health care administration.
For the past ten years, the Minneapolis St. Paul Business Journal has hosted the Best in Real Estate awards to acknowledge outstanding projects in the twin cities and the people behind them. This year the Winnipeg Apartments made it in as a finalist in the Multifamily Development or Redevelopment category. This project took more than three years to make a reality which includes amenities such as a green roof, tenant lounges, indoor play areas with skylights and commercial space on the first level. Congratulations to the Winnipeg Apartments!
The day we have been dreaming has arrived! The Winnipeg Apartments are open for business and ready for renters.
The grand opening ceremony took place in the commercial space of the south building having an excellent turnout. The event included speakers such as St. Paul's Mayor Chris Coleman, St. Paul councilmember Lee Helgen, and Ramsey County Commissioner Janice Rettman. Following the speeches, tours of the first and second floor were given so that everyone could see how wonderful the space is.

Winnipeg Groundbreaking Ceremony a success: On November 27, 2007 Legacy Management and Sparc hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for their new development; The Winnipeg Apartments. Attendees included St. Paul’s Mayor Chris Coleman, Councilmember Lee Helgen, and many more. The Winnipeg is a project of Invest St. Paul and part of a broad investment strategy on Rice Street. Designed to fit into the North End neighborhood’s mixed-used character, this ‘green’ development will include 5,996 square feet of commercial space and 56 apartments—providing high quality space for small businesses and housing opportunities for families with a variety of incomes.
